The John Howard Society of Kingston & District is entrusted with the personal information of its clients and is committed to excellence in its management of this information.
We collect personal information from our clients so that we can provide a service to them. This section answers some of frequently asked questions, and outlines how we're protecting the information that has been entrusted to us.
What Personal Information We Collect
We collect the following information about our clients:
- Name, address, phone number and email address
- Date of birth and gender
- Employment and education history
- Criminal record
- Health information
- Satisfaction levels and opinions about our services
How We Use That Personal Information
The main reasons we collect personal information are:
- To assess client needs and program suitability
- To assist in reintegration planning and process
- To provide core services such as housing support
- To provide follow up services
We also may use personal information for other secondary reasons:
- To continuously improve our customer service
- To develop a marketing/outreach strategy
- Program development
Sharing of Personal Information with Third Parties
Our funders require us to protect client information. We do not disclose personal information to third parties without written consent. We will only disclose personal information if we are required by law to do so.
If we are required to share personal information with our funders, a client will be asked to sign a Program Agreement Form which would provide us with consent.
When We Ask for Consent
When a client fills out a Housing Application Form, they are asked to provide us with personal information. At the bottom of the form, we will ask directly for consent to use the information so that we can provide the client with services.
When we are provided with personal information for other services such as community referrals or pardon applications, we assume the client consented to our collecting it and using it for that specific reason only. If we later need to use that information for a different purpose, we obtain consent from the client.
